The Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia is pleased to announce that we were awarded a $20,000 REI/Bicycle Friendly Communities Grant through the Bikes Belong Coalition. These grants, between $15,000 and $20,000 each, were awarded to five grassroots groups that are working closely with their city governments to make conditions better for bicycling in aspiring and designated Bicycle Friendly Communities.
The Bicycle Coalition will use this grant to ensure completion of Philadelphia's 10 year pedestrian/bicycle plan and of the trail projects funded by the $17 million TIGER grant. It will also support education efforts like the Bicycle Ambassadors (look out for the start of the 2010 season in May!), and encouragement activities such as Bike Month (also coming in May), Bike Freedom Valley, and Bike Philly. Philadelphia is currently a Bronze-level Bicycle Friendly Community (BFC).
Thank you to REI, Bikes Belong, and the League of America Bicyclists for this award!
Other cities to receive the March 2010 Awards are:
Bicycle Alliance of Minnesota—Minneapolis, Minnesota
Cascade Bicycle Club—Seattle, Washington
Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition—Los Angeles, California
Michigan Trails and Greenways Alliance—Detroit, Michigan
