AAA of South Jersey Now Offering Emergency Bike Assistance

Unfortunately, "towing to nearest temperate
coral reef in event of severe tire puncture" is
not offered as a rider on the plan.
AAA of South Jersey, which covers the counties of Camden, Gloucester, Salem and Cumberland, is the first area AAA affiliate to offer emergency bicycle assistance.

This covers members whose bicycles become disabled or inoperable. Service will be provided to any point of safety within a 15-mile radius of the bicycle breakdown and is only available within the AAA South Jersey coverage area.

The idea of roadside assistance clubs offering bicycle service is not new. The Better World Club, based in Portland, Oregon, markets itself as a greener alternative to AAA and offers nationwide bike assistance. This service is only available when you enroll in their Bicycle Plus membership program.

We applaud AAA South Jersey and Better World Club for implementing roadside assistance for bikes, and we hope that other AAA affiliates (such as AAA Mid-Atlantic) get on board in the near future. Hopefully the emergency ride program will be expanded to a mobile repair service so people can get back on the road or trail instead of calling it quits for the day.

Please join Better World Club instead of AAA. Better World donates a portion of its profits to groups advocating for safer roadways for ALL users -- including pedestrians, transit users, and cyclists.
