For trail enthusiasts the main point of interest will be the development of a Greenway Plan for Western Delaware County. This plan will complement the existing Greenway Plan for the Darby Creek Watershed. The plan will lay out a vision for linear green corridors to link the county’s open spaces and connect to people.
In the general planning world the term "greenway" doesn't always mean "multi-use trail". Trail advocates are sometimes disappointed when then find out that a greenway plan is only addressing the preservation of natural stream valleys. However the announcement for these meetings offers a refreshing clarification - "Not all parts of a county greenway network will have public access, but planning a potential countywide trail network within the greenway network is an objective of the Plan."
Municipalities to be included in the study:
Aston, Bethel, Chadds Ford, Chester, Concord, Edgmont, Lower Chichester, Marple, Middletown, Nether Providence, Newtown, Ridley, Springfield, Thornbury, Upper Chichester, and Upper Providence Townships; Brookhaven, Chester Heights, Eddystone, Marcus Hook, Media, Morton, Parkside, Ridley Park, Rose Valley, Rutledge, Swarthmore, Trainer, and Upland Boroughs; and the City of Chester.
