DVRPC Awards Money To Bike and Complete Streets Plans

The Transportation and Community Development Initiative (TCDI) is a grant program of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission (DVRPC) that supports local development and redevelopment efforts in qualifying municipalities of the Delaware Valley. Begun in 2002 to reverse the trends of disinvestment and decline in many of the region's core cities and developed communities.

TCDI was the chief funding source for the Philadelphia Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan. However that plan only covers about half of the city. The 2010 TCDI grant program will provide $62,000 for phase 2 - which will cover the west and southwest neighborhoods of the City.

Three other projects also include bicycle elements
  1. City of Philadelphia, Complete Streets Handbook - $60,000
  2. Bensalem Township, East Coast Greenway/Master Plan - $60,000
  3. New Hope Borough, Bicycle Strategy - $40,000
Other projects selected may include elements that will benefit bicyclists. The full list in pdf format is here.

TCDI provides a mechanism for municipalities to undertake locally-directed actions to improve their communities, which in turn implements their local and county comprehensive plans and supports the goals and vision of the long-range land use and transportation plan, Connections 2035.
