Tacony Palmyra and Ben Franklin Bridge Walkways Are Open For Business

For the first time in three weeks we are happy to report that bicycle and pedestrian access across the Delaware River is back at 100% capacity.

The Tacony-Palmyra Bridge walkway has been closed since February 4th due to ice and snow.  This morning the Burlington County Bridge Commission (BCBC) opened the eastbound (south) sidewalk for bike and pedestrian access. The BCBC requires users to walk their bike over the bridge. The walkway is open 24 hours.

Also this morning the Delaware River Port Authority reopened Ben Franklin Bridge, which was closed since Wednesday due to icing (the walkway was briefly opened for a few hours on Tuesday after the snow ended ended).  The walkway is open from 6AM to 8PM.

Both bridge agencies send out walkway closing alerts to smartphone subscribers:
  • For the Ben Franklin Bridge go to http://www.drpa.org/travel/email_notification.html
  • For the Tacony Palmyra Bridge - Text TACPAL to 888777 to receive notices about the Tacony-Palmyra Bridge drawbridge openings and walkway closings on your phone or go to nixle.com to sign up on the web for emails.
