Schuylkill River Trail Passable but Wissahickon Bikeway Possibly Obstructed

We have received several reports from commuting cyclists that the Schuylkill River Trail is open but not free of debris. There are some tree limbs partially blocking the trail between Nixon St and Conshohocken Train Station but it is passable.

Inquirer Staff Writer Don Sapatkin documented his trek from Mt. Airy on Wednesday. The video shows a large tree down on the Wissahickon Bikeway. Tree and debris removal will take some time to clear the roadway, so if you do choose to go this way be prepared to do some climbing.

A fallen tree stifles passage on the Wissahickon Bikeway between Forbidden Drive and Ridge Ave

If you see or know of downed trees you can report them using the 311 App for Philadelphia and SeeClickFix for outside the city limits. The Parks Dept reported 400+ reports of tree damage in the city. If you know of trail damage (wash outs, etc) please mention it in the comments here or let us know on Twitter.

Friday morning update.

Looks like the good folks at Montgomery County have been hard at work clearing the SRT. Last night I rode the Manayunk towpath trail and the SRT from Philly to Norristown. The trail is clear with no obstructions.

Looks like crews really concentrated on cleaning the trail surface on the section from the steel mill west of Conshohocken to where the trail goes beneath the Turnpike bridge. In that section, even the leaf litter is gone. Mud that had been covering the trail in places has been scraped away. In fact that section of trail is better than it was before the hurricane. Kudos to the Montgomery County crews!

The Wissahickon Bikeway is clear. A fallen tree near Ridge Avenue was removed by volunteers with the Friends of the Wissahickon. The volunteers also widened a narrow cut though a fallen tree.
