Hone Your Bicycle Advocacy Skills at Our National Bike Summit Orientation

On Monday, we will host a special National Bike Summit preparation course. “Educating Our Elected Officials In Washington” is designed for those attending the Summit's Capitol Hill day on Thursday, March 22nd, or those interested in setting up a meeting in their Representative's District office. (But it is open to everyone.)

What: Federal bicycling advocacy prep course
When: Monday, March 19th
Time: 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Location: Bicycle Coalition's Education Office, 1500 Walnut St, Suite 305.

Refreshments will be served.

Some background on our trip to Washington DC next week:

  • The Transportation Bill is facing a March 31st deadline and it is Congress' number one priority. The status of the House and Senate bills are changing daily. Currently bike/ped funding is zeroed out in the House's bill, and is somewhat retained in the Senate's.
  • So far we have meetings set up with Casey and Toomey, Fattah, Fitzpatrick, Schwartz and Pitts. We are working to secure meetings with Gerlach, Brady, and Meehan as well.
  • Meetings start around 9:30am and end around 6pm.

If you are interested in joining us in DC next Thursday, please e-mail us at bike@bicyclecoalition.org. Please tell us your home address and cell phone number. If you aren't sure who your Congressman is, you can find out here.

Monday's meeting will be held in lieu of our regularly scheduled Philadelphia City Cycling Committee meeting. The next City Committee meeting will be held on Tuesday April 17, 2012 at 6:30 PM.
