Are you a crossing guard or do you work at a school which uses crossing guards? The Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Resource Center is offering one-day training sessions for crossing guards. Unfortunately none of them take place in Philadelphia, but there are a handful in the surrounding counties. More information from the Resource Center below:

If you are responsible for training school crossing guards, then make plans to attend the Crossing Guard Train-the-Trainer courses offered by the Pennsylvania Safe Routes to School Resource Center. This one-day training focuses on teaching adults how to be effective, efficient, and safe crossing guards so that participants can return to their communities and set up similar training geared for local crossing guards.
Properly trained crossing guards help to enhance student safety by providing an element of structure and authority to the roadways near a school. Crossing guards can positively influence the behavior of children near intersections and help students cross roadways more safely.
The Crossing Guard Train-the-Trainer courses are offered 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. (lunch is on your own) at the following dates and locations:
February 23, West Chester, Chester Co.
March 14, Breinigsville, Lehigh Co.
March 19, Erie, Erie Co.
March 20, Moon Township, Allegheny Co.
April 2, Enola, Cumberland Co.
April 13, State College, Centre Co.
This training represents the first time that standardized crossing guard instruction has been developed and taught across Pennsylvania. There is no charge to attend this training.
