Former DC Transportation Czar To Present On Bike Sharing

On Monday Gabe Klein, the newly appointed Commissioner of Chicago DOT and ex-Director of the District of Columbia DOT will present a talk about Bike Sharing in Washington, DC. Along with Alison Cohen, President of Alta Bicycle Share, which operates Capital Bikeshare in Washington, they explain what that city has accomplished with bicycles as a form of public transit with Capital Bikeshare.

Hear how Washington, DC became the first city in North America to have advanced bike sharing. Hear how it was able to grow a small pilot program into Capital Bikeshare, the nation's largest system with over 1000 bikes, on which 300,000 rides have been taken.

Mr. Klein, under former Mayor Fenty, was responsible for pushing many of the bicycle infrastructure improvements in Washington, DC such as the iconic Pennsylvania Avenue center lane cycletrack and 15th Street contra-flow lane. He is a major supporter of Bike sharing system for US cities.
