This retractable car door is being marketed by JATECH. One observation-I can imagine that the people stepping out of the cars without warning could surprise bicyclists riding in the "people zone".
Well, I wouldn't ride closely past a door in a building that people could step out of. Why would I ride immediately next to a door in a car that people could step out of? Especially when there is 8-10 more feet of usable lane width to my left.

Sure, but you're acting like this would reduce safety for cyclists. I don't think that's true.
