Neighborhood Bike Works opened its South Philly satellite office in July of 2010. And is currently located at 508 S. 5th Street between Lombard and South. NBW South Philly's goal is to work with the diverse population in South Philadelphia, whether it is working professionals who are bicycle enthusiasts, immigrants who use their bikes as primary transportation, or children from the many schools in the surrounding area.
NBW South Philly also hosts the Bikery Open Shop. Just like Bike Church in West Philadelphia, the bike repair co-op allows anyone to come in, use their tools, get expert advice and direction from the facilitators. Donations to the Bikery supports NBW's kids programming. Stop in at the Bikery Open Shop on Wednesday evenings from 6:30-9pm and on Saturday afternoons from 12-3pm.
As 2011 approaches, NBW South Philly will be expanding programs, including road and mountain bike clubs, family open shops, and various other classes. Volunteers of all skill levels are welcome.
