Bike in Fatal Easton Crash - Brakes May Have Been Inoperable

March 17th boasted perfect weather for St. Patrick's Day, but it was a dark one for cyclists in the Philadelphia region which saw two major injury crashes and a fatal one that took the life of a 13 YO Boy in Easton.

According to the Morning Call Robert Mitchell rode down a steep incline on Mulberry St and slammed into a LANTA bus on Northampton St. Witnesses told police Robert appeared to be frantically trying to apply his brakes just before the crash. The bike was just bought from a BMX shop an hour before. Police are checking to see if the brakes were disabled, some BMX riders have been removing brakes from their bikes.

If this story isn't tragic enough the article also reports that a video of the crash was posted online (a YouTube search did not reveal any results).
