Adopt A Rack Program Extended Into April

This is just a reminder that the City's Adopt a Rack round 2 has extended its application deadline to April 7th.

By submitting a request under this program, the person or organization applying for a rack is committing to the following conditions:

  • It has the approval of the abutting property owner to place a bike rack on the sidewalk
  • It accepts responsibility for maintaining the bike rack over time – normally these bike racks require very little maintenance. However, sometimes an abandoned bike or frame to a bike will have to be removed or graffiti must be removed.
  • The bike rack will not create an obstruction to people walking on the sidewalk, boarding or being discharged from buses or entering or exiting buildings. (The City will inspect your location and may recommend minor shifts)

I can think of plenty of locations outside of the core Center City and University City where there is little or no bike parking but plenty of bikes. Antique Row, Fitler Square, Northern Liberties, So So, Queen Village, Fairmount, Manayunk, Powellton, East Falls, Bella Vista, South Broad St, Temple Town, Brewerytown, Kensington, Fishtown, Cedar Park etc. Let's start adopting.
