Maybe that will make bikers actually use the bike lane. Walking in that exact stretch on Saturday and Sunday, or any day for that matter, was interesting as most of the bikers were on the sidewalk.
This is not just for bikers.
All the debris from the entire road ends up pushed into the bike lane.
It's a terrifying stretch for bikers...cars treat columbus blvd like a highway when they can...not that I don't bike it anyway. But I'll bet it's the unpredictable aggression and speed of the cars that pushes many bikers onto the sidewalk...
By what route does the bike lane get from Columbus Boulevard onto Spruce? Is there a map posted online?
Not buying that argument. I think what is going on is a combination of ignorance and arrogance. Does the unpredictable aggression and speed of cars also push bikers on the sidewalks on 2nd street, 3rd Street, 4th Street and so on across to the Schuylkill? I would like to walk somewhere and not have a bike weave around me, it's bad behavior not to mention illegal.

It's 50/50. 50% of the people are ignorant and don't know what they should be doing, and 50% can't imagine having to joust with 2000+ lb vehicles that accelerate to 40 mph for a block, weaving in and around them.
You should try biking down chestnut street sometime. I have been riding for about 8 years, and I ride in the street 99.9% of the time; there are still times I'm gonna get on the sidewalk. The mismatch between cars and bikes is just too much sometimes.

Taggart: For that .1%, how about going along with the Bike Caoailtion Pledge and walk the bike on the sidewalk?
