City Moving Forward On Parking Meter Conversion Plans

The Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities Working closely with the Philadelphia Parking Authority, has begun the process of obtaining conversion kits that will convert a significant number of Center City meter poles into "post and ring" bike racks. Installation of the conversion kits is anticipated to commence in late fall.

The Mayor’s Office of Transportation and Utilities will work with the PPA to coordinate the conversion of meters in University City to bike parking at the time those meters are removed.

Yeah - wondering if anybody knows if the ring system they're planning on using is a commercially available product or purpose-built for the City?

A couple of minutes thought has produced what I think would be a better ring system - I hope the City is thinking too!

Here's another link from an earlier comment about how easy it is to break Toronto's post-and-ring system with a 2X4. http://torontoist.com/2006/08/toronto_bike_po.php
Maybe we could outlaw 2X4s!

What does a "significant number" mean?
