Oops!

Oops!

A street sweeper moving down the new Bustleton Avenue Bike Lane this morning, I could hardly contain my excitement.

Then the sweeper passes .....

... and it's blowing trash out!

Fortunately the crew spotted the problem, when I checked back an hour later I saw that the debris for the most part was gone.

Schuylkill River Trail Closings Ahead

Schuylkill River Trail Closings Ahead

Montgomery County is announcing that the Schuylkill River Trail in Plymouth Township will be closed periodically for construction activities. Beginning in November, a new short line railroad line will be installed adjacent to the Trail between Conshohocken and Norristown, which will require short term Trail closures.

The work will take place for a period of two months, weather permitting. Bicyclists and pedestrians should take note that flagmen will stop traffic on the Schuylkill River Trail during times when heavy equipment or grading activities may compromise the safety of the Trail user. These closures will be for short duration and are expected to occur during daytime hours of 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

It is advised that Trail users who contemplate using the Trail for recreation or commuter activities be prepared for delays. Most closures will not be for more than ½ hour at a time. Signs have been placed on the trail approaches to the construction work, warning the Trial user of possible closures.

Canadian Study - Bicycle Commuting Most Enjoyable

Canadian Study - Bicycle Commuting Most Enjoyable

Statistics Canada did a study on how workers perceive their daily commute to work. It revealed some interesting information. Among the interesting results were these tidbits:

"The workers who are really most likely to enjoy commuting are those who bicycle to work, the study found."

"In 2005, 19% of workers who rode their bicycles to work reported that their commute was the most pleasant activity of their day. This was true of just 2% of workers who drove to work."
