Western Pennsylvania Road may replace Allegheny River Trail - PittsburghLIVE.com:
By Mitch Fryer
LEADER TIMES
Saturday, September 25, 2004
PennDOT continues to address dangerous slide conditions in the northern area of the county.
One major problem site is located along Route 1003 between Templeton and Mahoning in Pine Township where the road has narrowed so much from sliding that emergency responders have expressed concern that their vehicles might not be able to travel along it.
Jim Struzzi, PennDOT community relations coordinator, said there is a short range solution and a long range solution for that slide.
Long term, Struzzi said, a study is underway to possibly relocate the road onto an existing bike path nearer the Allegheny River.
That would involve about one mile of new roadway. Struzzi did not know at what points the new road would be diverted from the old one.

Ivan wipes out the Delaware Canal
According to an article in Today's Morning Call: "Delaware Canal State Park Manager Rick Dalton said the storm that brought 4 to 8 inches of rain by dawn Saturday caused at least $7 million to 10 million in damage to the vulnerable 60-mile canal that stretches from Easton to Bristol.
''The people who work here are devastated,'' he said. ''They are proud of the canal and trail, and it hurts to see this happen.''
The most intense flooding along the Delaware since Hurricane Diane in 1955 washed away about 30 miles of the red-stone trail along the northern half of the canal and left serious breaches in the canal walls at Raubsville, Lumberville, Washington Crossing and other locations."
